Washington: The US Department of Defense, commonly referred to as the “Pentagon,” announced plans to deploy new military reinforcements in the Middle East. This decision involves sending additional destroyers equipped for ballistic missile defense, fighter squadrons, carrier aircraft, and several long-range bombers to the region.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, a statement from the Pentagon indicated that these forces are scheduled to start arriving in the coming months. This deployment coincides with the planned departure of the US aircraft carrier group, USS Abraham Lincoln, from the region. The statement also mentioned that these deployments are part of the recent decision to station the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system in Israel. Additionally, it highlighted the ongoing presence of the Ministry of Defense’s amphibious ready naval expeditionary unit in the eastern Mediterranean.
