Baghdad Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi affirmed that every Iraqi family has the right to a decent housing.

Al-Kadhimi said during today’s regular cabinet session: “Every Iraqi family has the right to a decent housing that preserves dignity and suits a decent living. Every citizen will get it.

He added: “Our plan in granting lands will include distributing 550 thousand residential plots, pointing out that during the past months, the government has completed sorting 17 new cities in all governorates except the region, and 8 of them have become technically complete, and ready for distribution by more than 338 thousand housing units.

He continued, “We directed government agencies to make every effort, and to do everything in their power to provide the largest possible number of plots of land for all segments of Iraqi society.”

He pointed out: “All categories of the people who do not have housing, or who have not previously benefited from a plot of land granted by the state, will be included in the grant of a plot of land, as this is their right.”

He stated: “The priority will be given to the families of our righteous martyrs, and to the poor and lower classes in their income in obtaining a plot of land.”

He stressed that in parallel with the residential land distribution initiative, there will be initiatives to grant loans for the purpose of assisting in its construction, thus turning the wheel of the internal economy and creating more job opportunities for young people.

He pointed out that last week there were vile attempts to impede the higher production ceiling of electricity that we have reached, but after two days, a collapse occurred in 4 governorates, and it was treated within 24 hours.

He said that after two days of these attempts, the electrical system collapses in general, coinciding with the targeting of power transmission towers, and the investigation will soon reveal the full causes.

Al-Kadhimi confirmed that our security forces are making great efforts to protect the power transmission towers, and have already thwarted a number of sabotage and terrorist attempts, and arrested and killed a number of saboteurs, and the last thing that was thwarted was a sinister attempt that occurred this morning.

He added: “Our work in this government is to increase the production of electric power, and we have opened several stations, and efforts are still continuing to increase production and overcome obstacles to opening stations and contracting.”

He indicated that poor planning, corruption and chaos in decision-making represent a heavy legacy in the electricity file, and the current government is working through scientific and practical strategies to overcome them and put this file on the right path to serve our people.
